NEW!!!! Under 18s boys and girls youth squad

New for 2016/17 is the introduction of a new squad for U18 boys and U18 girls. Training is on a Wednesday evening, 6.15 - 7.15pm. Although they may perfect their skills separately, the 2 squads will join together for mixed games. In addition, by Christmas, we are hoping to have the clubhouse open afterwards where they can enjoy the use of the club’s new snooker table, amongst other facilities. The coaches are: Graeme Bevington (Men’s Captain and Level 2 coach) Will Rogers (Men’s 1st team captain) Megan Clark (Club Development Officer and Level 2 coach) Lucy Wood (Ladies 1st team captain and Level 2 coach)

The aim of the U18 group is to encourage our young players to remain in hockey. Traditionally many leave after GCSEs and we hope the provision of a peer group session without the pressures of senior hockey, and a more mixed male/female environment with the emphasis on improving skills and match play but also having some fun and enjoying the game, will encourage young people to stay playing hockey into adulthood.

The teams have been entered into the England Hockey U18 cup (2 matches) and the Indoor Hockey Championships (2 matches). The rest of the matches will be friendlies with local clubs and colleges. We hope to enter the squads into the Yorkshire Hockey Association (YHA) League in 2017, once fully established. The only requirement to join the U18 team is to have been aged 16 or 17 years on 1st September 2016. There is no necessity to have played for HHC Juniors. ALL WELCOME. Just turn up and give it a try, the first couple of sessions are free. U18 members may play concurrently with senior hockey. Any enquiries please contact the U18s manager, Emma Patterson, on or with the club’s development officer, Megan Clark, on

Juniors playing in Senior teams - New Policy!!!

In order to ensure a proper development and progression for our particularly talented young hockey players, the Junior Section has formulated a policy together with the Mens and Ladies Sections for the integration of Juniors into Senior hockey. It is: U16 boys and girls: All young players in the U16 boys and U16 girls A teams (maximum of 16 in each group) will be invited to play hockey with the senior teams. There is no obligation. Should a player not wish to participate in senior hockey, they can continue to play as normal for their Junior U16 A team. Should a player wish to accept this offer, they will now be required to formally join their respective senior section by completing a senior membership form. The fee is £50 for the season and includes a match shirt. U14 boys and girls: The Junior Section does not support those in the U14s playing senior hockey. Although, exceptionally, some children have the necessary talent and ability, greater emotional maturity and robustness is usually required for adult hockey. We strongly advise against U14s playing adult hockey. Warning to parents: Please be aware that the Mens and Ladies Senior teams are designed for and run by adults. Therefore, your child may experience inappropriate stories, bad language, collisions and other adult behaviour. They may be excluded from certain activities. The senior sections are responsible for the safeguarding of children in accordance with the club’s policy – a role they take very seriously – however, many children are not yet ready for the speed and strength of adult hockey or have the game play experience. Injuries do occur. Make sure you are confident your child is ready for the adult hockey environment before they play.

U16 boys and girls A team trials.

To ensure a fair and robust procedure, trials for the A team for both the U16 boys and U16 girls will take place each year. A total of 15 or 16 will be selected in each. Selection will be based on talent and commitment. The trials are open to all members of the U16 boys and U16 girls from any team. U16 boys: Trials will take place on Sun 11th Sep, 9am – 1pm. Please contact Gary Nash for further details. U16 girls: Trials will take place on Sun 11th Sep, 1pm – 4pm. Please contact Jon Foggitt or Paul Hutchinson for further details.
