Mens Forth XI Hockey

After last seasons excellent performance in Division 8, the team gained promotion to Division 5 north. The team hopes to bring forward young players and give them experience of senior hockey before moving forward into the higher reaches of the game and have some great fun doing so!

With a mixture of experience and young enthusiasm, the 4th team are hoping to bounce back with promotion to Division 6 North. Led by this seasons captain, Chris French, the Mens 4th XI are hoping to continue their promising start to this season and hopefully finish the 2010-11 season with 1st or 2nd place to regain promotion.

This season hopes for the confident experienced players to guide the ambitious youngsters to develop their hockey. The Mens 4th XI should pose a threat on other teams hopes of a high finish. 1st or 2nd place would guarantee the 4th XI a place in the Yorkshire Division 4 for the 2012-2013 season.

MATCH REPORT:

WHAT A VICTORY!

Harrogate Mens 4th XI ran Boston Spa 4th team ragged as Harrogate sent Boston Spa to a 7-1 defeat. After Harrogate scored two early on, Boston Spa showed little response until the closing minutes of the first half with a goal mouth scramble which eventually ended up in the Harrogate Goal. After the break, and an inspiring team talk from captain Chris French, Harrogate had their heads in gear for a couple more goals. After the game hit 1-4, Boston Spa showed no hope of getting back and led Harrogate to go on to score three more goals. This gave Harrogate 4th XI a much deserved victory, and more importantly, 3 vital points.

MATCH REPORT:

JUST SRAPED THE WIN!

Harrogate 4th team edged out Halifax 3rd's in a fierce and physical match. Harrogate 4th's took the lead early on and it was looking promising for the 5th consecutive victory. Soon after, Halifax 3rd's showed that they weren't giving up and scored to bring it to 1-1. Just before half time, Halifax broke on the counter attack and slipped in another to make the score 1-2. After the break, Harrogate started the second half with their minds set to equalise. This proved effective when Joe Simmons scored a great goal from a one on one with the goal keeper to bring it back to 2-2. Now Harrogate had the determination to get one more. Harrogate showed that they weren't finished and dominated the second half with the ball hardly leaving the opposing side of the pitch. After many denied and wayward attempts on goal, Harrogate finally unlocked the Halifax defence through a pass into the 'D' by Joe Simmons to Dave Redman to score his second of the match. Harrogate held on to their late lead and secured another well deserved 3 points and extended their winning streak to 5 league games.

MATCH REPORT:

SOLID PERFORMANCE !

After last weeks match postponed due to the frozen pitch, it was a tough decision this week whether or not to play due to heavy snow earlier in the week.  The match was a slow start with both sides struggling to create chances, going into half time the scores were still level at 0-0.  After half time Harrogate dominated the possession and it didnt take long to find a way through the Rotherham defence through Ben Nami, the first goal seemed to inspre Harrogate and Chris French went on to score midway through the second half, as the pitch got harder and the game coming to a close Tony Edmondson and Dave Redman linked up and this led to Dave Redman scoring a spectacular goal from top D, The match ended 3-0 and the score fully reflected the game.

Every match, the experienced players and the youngsters are working together better and better. With an age span of over 30 years in the Harrogate squad and a mere 4 years between the opposition, Harrogate did well to keep up with the students at the peak of their physical fitness. York’s goal early on immediately showed warning signs in the Harrogate morale. After the goal, the whole match was end-to-end and Harrogate kept trying to get the equaliser. The rough and tumble (and the odd kack handed player) gave Harrogate plenty to think about in the half time break. Putting aside our feelings about the umpires and the opposition, Harrogate focused on the objective of an equaliser. Harrogate started to develop more and more attacks but couldn't find the finishes. Despite the bitter cold and the slow pitch that Harrogate weren't used to, Harrogate still showed the passion to grasp the 1 point. This soon became apparent when Harrogate started to win a few short corners in a matter of minutes. Although, two efforts from the shorts were denied by the speedy defenders, Harrogate ditched the tactic of the first time shot and worked a more tactical slip pass which Dave Redman put into the far corner to grasp the late equaliser. Harrogate's unbeaten run grows to 6 consecutive matches. Its not 3 points, but Harrogate's hopes of a high finish in Division 8 continue.
