November Newsletter

10th December 2009

North Yorkshire Umpire Development is planning to hold a Level 1 course at Harrogate on Sunday January 24th 2010 – organisers are hoping to make this a 1-day complete course if candidates are prepared to do some preparation beforehand.

All seniors and 14-18 year-old with Foundation Award are invited to participate. Interested individuals please contact the club or Chris Bale.

Already Qualified?
Sharpen up your game and technique with 2 new umpiring DVDs available to buy from England Hockey

*** Rules of Hockey 2009-10 *** (A video guide)
*** Core Skills for Umpiring *** (used as part of the new Level 1 course)

Chris Bale has reviewed both and would be pleased to discuss them (and a mistake he found to which EH admitted – Good Old Chris!) along with the heart rate monitoring and GPS tracking that he has been doing recently in line with the NPUA and National Development programme.

How far do you think an umpire runs? (Think that depends on the umpire eh Derek?)

How fast do you think he goes and for how long? (Think that depends on the umpire as well eh Derek!!)

Chris has been finding out his own stats for the last few games and how much of the pitch he really covers in 70 minutes! (Probably more than Gary “Flash” Nash does these days!)

I’m sure you all know already but this year’s party extravaganza will take place on 12th December. Read more…. Yes 7.30pm till late for beer, alco pops, music, dancing and pizza, as well as the usual fun, frolics and fancy dress. Tickets are £10 and can be purchased on the night, but if you can let your captains know before hand it will help the ladies plan the food (or at least the order to Pizza Hut).

Special thanks to Smithy and Ed Peters, who between them helped us find a DJ at short notice after the original guy dropped out.

Yes despite the prize fund reaching £200, there were only 4 people in the bar for this Novembers Draw. We can only assume that club members are seriously loaded...

For those of you that thought/assumed/didn't care either way, the Draw is NOT going to be held before the Christmas Party.

For those with short term memory problems and who haven't yet received or read their fixture cards or who have not received or read previous emails, newsletters or news items the Draw will always be held on the first Saturday of the month unless otherwise notified....This means the next one will be Saturday 9th January 2010. As a famous meerkat once said..Simples....!
