Welcom to Harrogate Hockey Section
Harrogate Hockey Club runs 5 men’s teams and 5 ladies teams and has a thriving Junior section with over 350 members.
The Ladies first team plays in North Division One, the Men’s first team plays in North East Division 2, and the other sides play in a variety of Yorkshire Leagues.
The number of teams and different leagues means that players of all ages can join in the fun at the appropriate level for their time of life and ability. Whatever the level though, you will find members from all teams in the bar on a Saturday afternoon, socialising as well as watching one of the other teams playing.
The junior teams play on a Sunday in a variety of tournaments and competitions throughout the season, and when they are ready are encouraged to make the move into Saturday hockey with the adults. In fact, most of the players in both men’s and lady’s first teams have come up through the junior section, and all of the other sides currently have a generous smattering of youth. This means we have teenagers mixing in with adults in their 60s, benefiting from their experience, and adding to the social and family feel of the club.
Both men’s and ladies sections, also have Veterans teams for the over 35s, playing in the Yorkshire Cup and going on tours specially designed for old people - with wheel chairs and walking sticks supplied.
As in all hockey clubs there is a strong social element as well. Besides the usual Christmas and End of Season dinners, there are a number of events held throughout the year, as well as the odd impromptu trip into town on a Saturday after a game.
So if you have never tried hockey before but want to give it a go, have just moved to the area and are looking for a team, or are an ex-player thinking about starting up again, then contact us or come down to training and introduce yourself.
